CEO admits they have made a solution in search for a problem

Calling it a multi billion dollar project is factually correct but quite the understatement

Julius Caesar died over 50 years ago don’t you know.

True. Technically 7 and 700 are both “multi” but not QUITE identical..

The only useful thing to do with AI is to remove it from any place they did infect it with.

Bananapants is now my new favorite word.

Can’t even imagine how bleak it must look Co-Pilot and Microsoft when all the news/talk is always about ChatGPT and Grok

You know Microsoft has OpenAI by the nuts right?

Buddy, the useful thing you want do with it is also socially impermissible.

They are just trying to distract us from the fact that it is already doing what it is supposed to do. Which is enable companies to fire even more people and deliver even less on their promises.

Are those quotes actually real and in the right context?

AFAIK this is a paraphrase that holds very well the meaning on the original.

Its better to beg for social forgiveness than to ask for social permission

It is already replacing call centers, apart from this no breakthrough …

We didn’t want it

They stole our content to make it

It makes shitty output

Corporate leadership uses it to take our jobs away

Grifters use it to manipulate people

Lazy people use it to fill our channels with garbage

Tech companies won’t let us turn it off

It takes our natural resources

It drives up our expenses

ELON MUSK LETS PEOPLE USE IT TO MAKE CHILD PORN

And it’s our fault that we don’t accept it? It’s our responsibility to justify its existence? Fuck you Nadella.

Did they ever have “social permission”? Seems like they just went ahead and did it and most people just have other things to worry about.

Article:

https://www.pcgamer.com/software/ai/microsoft-ceo-warns-that-we-must-do-something-useful-with-ai-or-theyll-lose-social-permission-to-burn-electricity-on-it/

Some fun bits:

Nadella says that AI companies and policy makers must build out “a ubiquitous grid of energy and tokens,” which is the task currently making it [impossible to buy a stick of RAM at a reasonable price

Fuck AI

“The demand side of this is a little bit like, every firm has to start by using it,” said Nadella

The beatings will continue until morale improves!

“People need to say, ’Oh, I pick up this AI skill, and now I’m a better provider of some product or service in the real economy,” said Nadella.

Yes, because your average working is definitely concerned with…checks notes…. Providing products and services~making rich twats even richer~ and not trying to fucking survive and buy food

He did at least provide one real example of what he means by all this: “When a doctor can … spend more time with the patient, because the AI is doing the transcription and entering the records in the EMR system, entering the right billing code

Yes because I trust the privacy nightmare plagarism machine with my personal health records, and definitely trust the hallucinating sand to ‘enter the correct billing code’. The article author, Tyler Wilde, also ponts out that in this scenario it’s probably also going to be used to try and classify shit as more expensive shit.

To me the scariest use case is using AI to gain the trust of an individual, and then abusing that trust to influence political or financial descisions.

People are already, litterally going insane talking to ChatGPT. Wait until they figure out how to train the Fox News of LLMs.

That’s one of the problems, but there’s also the insertion of myriads of errors in numerous databases of all kinds (as if ourdatasets weren’t flakey enough as it is), public and private, which can have all kinds of consequences down the road.

Let me introduce you to “Next Level"

A German LLM that promotes Germanic New Medicine (GNM)

The absolute worst part is they could have actually done some really useful things and didn’t even bother. Received an email from a new contact…click here for detailed contact card with all their info and not just a blank card with an email address.

Didn’t even try to make it useful.

Does anyone have a link to the original post in addition to the image?

Nadella keeps on talking of “tokens” generated by the data centers that must be infused everywhere.
Surely a new BS buzzword but what is it? Since the target of such talk is finance executives, is it about the merge of crypto-currencies and AI, i.e. how to make out of gigantic investments?

Thanks but strangely i didn’t recognize that same token ;)

Seriously i doubt that Nadella was just talking about strings of chars. An interesting paper was published the day before Nadella’s talk (https://www.deloitte.com/us/en/insights/topics/emerging-technologies/ai-tokens-how-to-navigate-spend-dynamics.html):

Business leaders should treat AI economics with the same rigor as energy or capital allocation, recognizing tokens as the new currency
