A little reminder that all of my books are available via bookshop(dot)org, which means that pretty much any local book store can stock them, and benefit from their sale online. If you haven't tried Bookshop, here's a great place to start!

I'm curious---how is Bookshop working for you (and others)?

eh hem,
no actually,
I'm curious

Honestly, it doesn't do much for me financially as the vast majority of my readers still purchase/read via Amazon/Kindle but I'm definitely a fan of the concept (supporting local book stores,) so even though I earn quite a bit less per-sale and it takes much longer for me to get paid, I'm still pretty pro-Bookshop.

Me, too, for all the reasons. I distribute through IngramSpark so people can order from their local bookstores and do bookshop.org, but even though I have to charge more for those books, I make less per sale.

Interesting! I am going to look into this. I am all for supporting local bookstores and the possibility of getting my titles on their shelves too. Thanks for the tip.

No problem. Basically, the two most common ways it's done is via Amazon's "Expanded Distribution" option in KDP, or directly through Ingram, as they own Bookshop.
@michaelshotter @steaphan @bookstodon @specfic @scifi @horrorbooks can you tell us more about how the different book selling options work? How they rank in terms of net benefit for the writer? And if you feel so inclined, the publishing options? And margins (I'm guessing you wouldn't want to discuss that).
@Disputatore @steaphan @bookstodon @specfic @scifi @horrorbooks In short: Expanded Distribution grants the right to print/sell a given book to third-party printers/distributors such as Ingram/Bookshop. It's very easy to implement in KDP (literally a checkbox) but you pay for that convenience and expanded reach by taking a substantial hit to your per-unit profits (50-80%) based on several factors. Each solution has pros/cons, so doing your own research is a must. There truly is no easy answer. 🙂
